“Bisbee 2020” Art Show at JF Thamm Gallery
20 oil paintings depicting in real time the effects of social distancing in Old Bisbee
Bisbee, Arizona, May 4, 2020- The JF Thamm Gallery announces its latest show-“Bisbee 2020”
by artist John Thamm. The show will run with social distancing viewing each day the gallery is open.
The show-“Bisbee 2020” documents in real time the changes caused by “Social Distancing” on the streets of Old Bisbee from March 7-May 3.
“I had started to paint various storefronts in Bisbee in late February and then at the height of the tourist season, the town went quiet. My studio looks out on Main Street and I felt immersed in the emptiness and isolation that swept over it. Each day I escaped the news, politics and fear by painting what I saw and felt,” said John.
John toned down his vibrant palette using soft, subtle colors that feature shadowy figures, and occasional glimpses of John and his dog Reilly. As each painting was completed, John posted it on his Facebook page with the merchant’s name, address and website asking the public to support Old Bisbee Merchants.
May 8th marks the opening of small retail stores in Arizona and a good milestone to launch this show. John commented: “My hope for the merchants of Old Bisbee, is that they survive and that the town retains its uniqueness.
View “Bisbee 2020” every day 11am - 5pm at JF Thamm Gallery, 40 Main Street, Bisbee, AZ. A comfortable “social-distanced” space.

Spokane Artist John Thamm Explores the Human Condition in New Show, "A World Observed: From the Ground Up"
SPOKANE, WA—Shotgun Studios is proud to announce "A World Observed: From the Ground Up," a new exhibition featuring recent paintings and sculptures by local artist John Thamm. The show opens on October 3 and runs through November 15.
Thamm’s work offers a powerful and introspective look at the world, spanning three distinct series. "Cultural Heroes and Heroines from my Youth" celebrates figures who have shaped his life and vision. "From in Front of and Behind"explores unique perspectives through striking compositions.
The show also features a poignant series titled "Souls on the Streets," inspired by Thamm’s observations of downtown Spokane. While frequenting the Satellite Diner, he was moved by the struggles of people on Sprague Avenue dealing with addiction, mental illness, and poverty. Thamm painted these figures without identifying faces, capturing their raw vulnerability. "Painting these figures brought up feelings of anger, sadness, and pure desperation, and helped me to better understand the complexity of the 'homeless' situation," says Thamm. "We are all Souls on the Street."
The exhibition will also include political works that speak directly to the current state of the world.
